Foxtel NBN review: Our verdict

While it's primarily known for its entertainment packs, you can also grab an NBN plan from Foxtel as a standalone plan or bundled with a streaming pack.

There's no real advantage to getting it bundled - the cost is the same as getting the plan and the pack separately - but you do get pretty decent speeds with Foxtel's NBN plans.

Value for money

Foxtel's standalone NBN plans are priced around the Finder average for their respective speed tiers.

You can bring your own modem or purchase one from Foxtel for $140, which is above the Finder average cost of $118.

You can bundle the NBN plan with the following 5 entertainment plans:

  1. Foxtel Plus: 50+ channels, including drama, lifestyle, documentaries and reality.
  2. Movies: 50+ Foxtel Plus channels and over 1,000 movies on demand.
  3. Sports: 50+ Foxtel Plus channels and over 50 sports on dedicated HD sport channels.
  4. Sport and Movies: 50+ Foxtel Plus channels, Movies and Sports.
  5. Platinum Plus: Foxtel Plus, Sports, Movies, and includes a Netflix Standard plan.

Things to watch out for:

Performance

Since Foxtel is not a primarily NBN broadband provider, it is not in the latest ACCC Broadband Performance Report through which the reliability of its NBN speeds could be verified.

However, it ranked first in the Netflix ISP Speed Index for Australia in October 2022. This Index measures the prime time performance of Netflix streaming by internet providers across the country.

Customer service

You can get in touch with the Foxtel team in the following ways:

Bonus features

Besides its array of entertainment packs to choose from, Foxtel only has one additional noteworthy feature:

💰 Netflix discount

You can add a standard Netflix subscription to Foxtel's entertainment packs for $9 per month on fixed-term contracts (or for $15 per month on no lock-in contracts).

This is a little cheaper than the $16.99 per month you'd be paying if you signed up to Netflix separately.

Which rivals are giving Foxtel a run for its money?

Tangerine has some of the cheapest plans on Finder and offers 6-month sign-up discounts to sweeten the deal.

For other entertainment bundles:

Don't want to be forced into a 12-month entertainment plan? You can tack on Fetch TV on some of iiNet's plans.

For reliable speeds:

Exetel has topped multiple ACCC broadband performance reports for delivering top-tier speeds across its plans.

Ready to sign up to Foxtel NBN?

Unfortunately, Foxtel NBN isn't available to sign up to online. You'll need to call Foxtel to discuss signing up to any of its NBN plans or bundles.

You can also compare NBN plans from other internet providers in Australia to see if you can find a better deal.

What if I'm moving house?
If you're moving, you'll need to get in touch with Foxtel to check whether Foxtel TV and NBN are available at your new address. Keep in mind that it could take up to 5 business days to get connected.

In case there's a notice period to account for, make sure you leave sufficient time to let your current provider know you're leaving. You don't want to be stuck paying for 2 internet services.

Hi there,
Foxtel broadband also offers an upgrade to an NBN 100/20 tier, but you’d have to contact them direct to see if you’re eligible to get this.
Hope this helps.

Phil November 30, 2018

I currently have a bundled service with Telstra including Foxtel sport and entertainment including movies. I also have 3 mobiles on an Optus plan and Opus sport.
My question is should I go completely with Optus or with Telstra or can NBN service providers cover everything as a bundles service.

finder.com.au is one of Australia's leading comparison websites. We are committed to our readers and stands by our editorial principles We try to take an open and transparent approach and provide a broad-based comparison service. However, you should be aware that while we are an independently owned service, our comparison service does not include all providers or all products available in the market. Some product issuers may provide products or offer services through multiple brands, associated companies or different labeling arrangements. This can make it difficult for consumers to compare alternatives or identify the companies behind the products. However, we aim to provide information to enable consumers to understand these issues.

How we make money

We make money by featuring products on our site. Compensation received from the providers featured on our site can influence which products we write about as well as where and how products appear on our page, but the order or placement of these products does not influence our assessment or opinions of them, nor is it an endorsement or recommendation for them. Products marked as 'Top Pick', 'Promoted' or 'Advertisement' are prominently displayed either as a result of a commercial advertising arrangement or to highlight a particular product, provider or feature. Finder may receive remuneration from the Provider if you click on the related link, purchase or enquire about the product. Finder's decision to show a 'promoted' product is neither a recommendation that the product is appropriate for you nor an indication that the product is the best in its category. We encourage you to use the tools and information we provide to compare your options. Where our site links to particular products or displays 'Go to site' buttons, we may receive a commission, referral fee or payment when you click on those buttons or apply for a product. Sorting and Ranking Products

When products are grouped in a table or list, the order in which they are initially sorted may be influenced by a range of factors including price, fees and discounts; commercial partnerships; product features; and brand popularity. We provide tools so you can sort and filter these lists to highlight features that matter to you.
